No Comments Damn the Torpedoes! Four Bells!
I’ve always been fascinated by historic Naval battles and the men who commanded the ships during them.  My favorite story has always been that of Oliver Hazard Perry who, after his ship was destroyed during the Battle of Lake Erie, made his way on a small row boat through heavy gunfire so he could take command of the USS Niagara — and ultimately win the battle.  His battle report (“We have met the enemy and they are ours”) speaks volumes in it’s brevity about the man and his laser focus on the mission at hand.  Not one to waste words, he let his actions speak for him.
In many ways, running a start-up requires the same focus.
I’ve discovered from several years of working with some large (and small) tech companies, and countless hours of IT consulting work, that most meetings are a complete waste of time for everyone involved. People love to hear themselves talk. Middle management doubly-so. People who have nothing to do desire nothing more than to gather around and talk about what they’re going to do, while people who have things to do can do little but fume about being kept from actually doing what needs to get done.
I don’t plan on spending a lot of time on this blog talking about what we are going to do with Loudlever (though I love talking about why we’re doing it). If we’re quiet it’s because we’re busy.
